Overview
Editing a field definition in the Field Dictionary will automatically update all layout drafts which use that field’s dictionary definition. This ensures that field changes are made consistently across all impacted layout drafts.
Editing a single field
To edit a single field, click the Edit button in the top right of the field details view. The following elements of a field may be edited:
- Display Name
- Data Type
- Output Name
- Status (Enabled / Disabled)
- Field Groups.
Since Display Names must be unique to a single field in the field dictionary, the edit action will fail and the error message will be shown if a field’s Display Name is edited to match the Display Name of another field.
Note that disabling a given field definition in the Field Dictionary will not impact layout versions where it is already being used.
Editing multiple fields
To edit multiple fields at once, navigate to either the Field Dictionary listing screen or use the CSV import option.
- In the listing screen, several edit actions are available above the table of field definitions, in the Action drop-down. To perform these actions, first, select the desired field definitions using the checkboxes to the left of the items in the list and then select the action.
- Assign Field Group - allows the user to add field groups to multiple fields at once. After selecting which rows to take action on, a modal will appear where field groups to assign can be selected or created.
- Delete - supports deleting several fields at a time. After selecting which rows to take action on, a confirmation modal will be shown.
-
Edit Multiple - allows for the data type or status of several fields to be changed at once. After selecting which rows to take action on, a modal will appear to allow the user to select a new data type or status value.
- Multiple fields may also be edited by uploading a CSV with the same Display Name as the existing field(s), but different Data Types, Output Names, Statuses, or Field Groups. When importing a CSV of field definitions (described above in the Creating Fields section), a modal will be shown allowing the user to provide the desired CSV file for upload.
- The lower part of the import modal shows an option to either skip the processing of existing fields or update the existing fields with the definitions in the selected CSV - to update, select the second option. Fields are considered existing if a field with the same Display Name as specified in a row of the CSV already exists in the system.
