Creating Data Types with ML Configurations

Overview

To create a data type with a descriptive display name that matches the name of the field in your specific document, you can use the system's existing ML configuration values to reduce confusion for users who manage field definitions in the Layout Editor and Field Dictionary.

For example, an account number field that contains letters and numbers could use the Alphanumeric data type. However, creating a new data type named "Account Number" using the ML Configuration value "Entry Alphanumeric" is recommended because it allows users of the Layout Editor and Field Dictionary to more easily recognize and select the correct data type.

Creating data types with existing ML configurations

To create a new data type and corresponding display name:

  1. Click the Create Data Type button in the top right of the Data Types management screen.
  2. In the modal, enter the desired name for the new data type, set the status, and then click Next.
  3. From there, ensure the Existing ML Configuration option is selected, and choose the ML Configuration value to use.
  4. Click Create to add the new data type to the system.
